8007 farmers killed themselves in India in 2015 according to the data of the National Crime Bureau of India . Many of the deaths are linked to the escalating agrarian crisis in the country. Farming is becoming unviable as crop prices crash and the support price for agri-products is not enough to sustain their way of life.

Indian agriculture is overly dependent on rainfall. Droughts and scarcity of groundwater has worsened the situation. With around half of India’s population dependent on farming, there aren’t enough schemes and support to pull the farmers out of this deepening crisis.

The government recently announced a scheme to support farmers. but will that be enough? Watch what a farmer has to say about it in this story.
